World Water Day is commemorated every year on March 22nd (since 1993!) as a day Water and Sustainable Development.
Each year, a specific aspect of freshwater is highlighted, and 2015 is no different. This year, the focus is on Water and Sustainable Development. Each World Water Day provides an important opportunity to highlight water’s role in the sustainable development agenda.
Present in almost every facet of our lives as humans, water plays an important role in our health, urbanization, industry, energy, food, and water even plays a significant role in matters of equality.
Previous years themes have included Water and Energy (2014), Water and Food Security (2012), Coping with Water Scarcity (2007), and Water and Culture (2006).
