Whole Home Water Refiner
Your softener bed is populated with thousands of tiny beads made of resin. The resin acts like a magnet, working to draw out the calcium and magnesium that make life – and your water – so hard.
Salt is then used to regenerate the resin bed, clearing out the minerals and priming it to do the job once again.
Water hardness is a measurement of how much dissolved calcium, magnesium and other minerals are in your water. Hard water can hurt pipes, fixtures and appliances with scale build-up and this often translates to unnecessarily high costs annually in cleaning products and detergents.
A water softener will take out the hard minerals from your water, making your water soft. The refiner has the added step of a carbon layer for the water to pass through, removing the chlorine from the water as well.
Water softeners add very little sodium to the drinking water. A single glass of softened water typically contains less than 12.5 milligrams of sodium. To give this perspective, a single slice of white bread can average around 170 milligrams of sodium.
If this is still a concern for you, potassium chloride pellets are also available for use as an alternative to sodium chloride.
