PFAS

Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances (PFAS), which includes PFOA, PFOS, and  are a group of extremely non-reactive chemicals including PFAS and PFOS, which are used to make coatings and products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water. They are commonly used to keep things like food and liquids from sticking to other materials like cookware and fabrics.

They are known as 'forever chemicals' because of how difficult it is to break them down and remove them from the environment. They have shown up in everything from the food we eat and the air we breathe to breast milk and even our brains.

Forever chemicals can lead to health problems including:

  • Auto-immune disease
  • Cancer
  • Decreased birth weight
  • Fertility issues
  • Hormone issues
  • Liver damage
  • Obesity
  • Thyroid disease
